Live Long and Prosper

This weekend Jim and I did a rare thing and paid to see a movie on the big screen. Maybe, perhaps, a couple times a year we think there is one worth spending $18.00 to view and Star Trek was one of those. In childhood, I loved watching the original series with my family and have followed all the subsequent series, except Deep Space Nine. I could never get into that one.

This most recent addition to the franchise did not disappoint. I was extremely impressed with the casting. They managed to capture the essence of each character as we remember them in their older years and yet bridge the gap to their youthful selves in a believable way. My particular favorite was "Bones". The actor who portrayed him had clearly studied the mannerisms and speech patterns of DeForest Kelley. It was so much fun to watch.

My only disappointment was that they were not able to find a role for my friend Chris Fawkes. He would have perfected the role of any elderly Vulcan.......

Fabulous 15

Today
marks fifteen

years of
marriage

to Jim..
What
do you think?

Has it taken
it's toll on me?
Be honest.

All joking aside, I am so very blessed to have such a wonderful husband. It is a pleasure to walk through life with one of the very best of men, each day full of contentment. God provided the perfect person for me and I am looking forward to the next 15 years....and more.

Death Trap?

I noticed about a week ago, a cat stealthly stalking the birds in my yard. I am a cat-lover, but they need to leave my birds alone! A loud hiss from me sent him scurrying away....not to return, I hoped. As I looked out the window this morning however, I discovered a slew of Mourning Dove feathers on the ground near my newly constructd water fountain. Have I unwittingly supplied the neighborhood feline with an easy hunting arena? Hmmmm...I may have to utilize Jubal's paintball gun on the hunter...

Spring Cleanup

I love the fresh burst of motivation and energy that Spring brings me after my weary winter confinement. My yard is once again tidy and pleasant after spending a week working toward that goal. On Saturday, Jim and I spent the day dragging, cutting, and burning limbs and the occasional entire tree. This past year was a record setter for the amount and sizes of branches that our surrounding trees lost to wind and winter.

Yesterday, I dug all the grass and weeds out from the rock path and added a few solar lights, making it once again an inviting entrance. My water fountain that I began last spring is now complete. (I've included a video, complete with the sound of our resident Robins in the background. If you listen close you might even hear one of the kids yelling in the house :) Being about as far from a qualified engineer as you can get, I brilliantly constructed my water feature with absolutely no liner under the waterfall last year. It looked lovely for a few hours until I had no more water in the tub. I rebuilt it this past week and ran it all day yesterday. The only water loss was from Tell's splashing. I must say I'm quite satisfied with the project and look forward to a summer outside with the lulling sound of falling water.

Toddler Tell

The yard is once again filled with dandelions, the first "flower" that blooms at my house. I have already been offered no less than 5 bouquets in the past two days, by a very proud little Tell.
At least when he is picking dandelions, it distracts him from drawing all over his unclothed body with markers, a hobby he has recently picked up. He went to church this morning with green on his forehead and blue on his arms. That's my boy!

Last week when he impressed me with his knowledge, I remarked, "What a smart cookie you are!" He tilted his head and grinned as he chided me. "Mama, I not a cookie, I a todder!"
