Dissing the Namesake

It was a Buxton Crowd Beach day at Crescent and with Jubal leaving for Parris Island on September 2, probably the last one ever with all four of my kids together. I have been determined to have each of the boys read the Louis L'Amour novel that contains their namesake before they leave the house. Jubal avoids books whenever possible so with time running out, I practically had to shove the book in his hand to bring it to the beach to start reading.

We, in the mom crowd, amused ourselves periodically by checking in on his lack of progress. He took our ribbing in good humor and two hours after arriving, he completed the first chapter. We spontaneously broke into congratulatory applause for his miraculous accomplish . An hour and a half later I believe he had almost made it to the end of Chapter 2. This may be the most drawn out reading of JUBAL SACKETT ever!
